What to Do in Midland This Summer (2024)

The start of summer brings a ton of local events in Midland and the surrounding area to keep you busy! If you’re wondering what to do in Midland this summer, then check out this regularly updated list of events. Add these events to your calendar and have an amazing summer!

Let’s Start with Canada Day Weekend

Don’t miss Canada Day Midland on Monday July 1st at Little Lake Park, an awesome annual celebration. Events begin at 11am. The park gets busy so arrive early if you like a quieter atmosphere.

Great for all ages, there is live music and performers, kids activities, magicians, food trucks, a local artisan market, buskers, face painting, bouncy castles, and so much more. End the evening with fireworks!

Don’t miss Canada Day at the Penetanguishene Museum July 1st from 11-6. This is a free event, catered to the younger family crowd. There will be live music, a photo booth, face painting, glitter tattoos, bouncy castles, character meet and greet including Bluey and Bingo.

You also get free access to check out the museum for the day to check out local artifacts. Cannon fire and free cupcakes will be at 2pm and a cash BBQ is available all day.

If you’re looking for a parade, check out the Tay Canada Day Parade. Win prizes in all different categories and join everyone for a free hamburger or hot dog after the parade. This event is in Port McNicoll on Saturday June 29th at 12pm.

Live Music and Performances

All summer long you can see a variety of events at the Midland Cultural Centre, from Chicago Trubute: Chicago Transit Canada on June 30th, The Prom musical running July 17-20, 24-27, and the BMA Festival of the Bay throughout the summer.

Don’t miss monthly jam nights, Folks & Blues collective, and the MCC art gallery, featuring Nswi Noodinan (Three Winds). This exhibition runs from June 21st – September 30th, 2024.

Enjoy live performances at the historic King’s Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene. Steel Magnolias is on stage July 11-28, 2024 and you can enjoy Jersey Boys from August 8-September 1st.

Enjoy live music on the beach at Bulk ’til Dusk at Balm Beach in Tiny Township every Thursday from 6-6pm all summer.

Movies in the Park

Little Lake and the Midland Public Library are hosting

In Tiny you can enjoy Movies in the Park throughout the township. Movies start at dusk with seating starting at 8:30. Bring your own blanket, chairs, snacks and bug spray. Movies TBA.

Historic Walking Tours

Learn about the history of local businesses and homes with a downtown Penetanguishene walking tour, select Thursday evenings in July running from 6-7:30 or tour the Rotary Champlain Wendat Park while learning about Indigenous and Franco-Ontarian history of our area, select Thursdays in August. Tickets are $7 with kids 12 and under free.

Georgian Bay Summer Festivals

We have a number of memorable festivals in Midland, Penetang, Tiny, and the surrounding area this summer.

Tiny Community BBQ – Saturday July 13, 2024 11-3pm

Join Tiny residents at the community’s biggest annual event at Perkinsfield Park. Live music, food, fun activities and bouncy castles for kids, and opportunity to connect with local vendors and community businesses.

This is a free event and a great place to connect with the Tiny community.

Le Festival du Loup July 20, 2024 10am – 7:30pm

Celebrate French culture and history or Francophonie. The day begins with a tractor parade and includes live music, food, storytelling, activities for kids and families, and more.

Midland ComiCon July 21, 2024 10am-3pm

Come to the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, cosplay encouraged. Check out a variety of vendors selling comics (some buying), new and vintage toys, anime, manga, DVDs, and more. Meet Authors and Artists and get some autographs.

Admission is $5 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. Bring a food donation and win some prizes.

Pirates of the Bay – August 3rd, 2024 10am-5pm

For all pirate lovers, come to Discovery Harbour to explore ‘pirate ships’ and brig (historic jail), enjoy canon firing demonstrations, pirate duels, cutlass, saber, and sword presentations, and all day activities including; pirate temporary tattoos, scavenger hunt, water canons, inflatable obstacle course, make a paper sword, pirate hook, and pirate hat.

Meet the pirate king and tour the Scallywag Tavern for great souvenirs, snacks, and pirate drinks. Tickets are $12 (tax included) and free for kids 5 and under.

Midland Rib and Beer Fest – August 16-18, 2024

Come to Harbourside Park in Midland for a very popular summer festival. Fill your bellies with perfectly cooked ribs while enjoying a great lineup of musicians. Admission is $2 per person and kids under 5 are free.

Georgian Bay Tugboat Festival – August 17, 2024 10-4pm

Free admission to this family friendly weekend event at the Midland Dock. Enjoy tug races, demonstrations, a tug push, and tours of some of the tugboats.

Check out the live music, buskers and market vendors, as well as a ton of family oriented activities, including face painting and games. 

Don’t miss the tugboat parade of lights Friday August 16th at dusk.

Music in the Park

Every Sunday in July and August you can find live local musicians at the Rotary Stage at Little Lake Park, Midland. Bring your own blanket or chairs to this free event. Headliners begin at 7pm with special guests at 6pm some nights.

On Friday nights enjoy the Bayside Summer Soiree at the Penetanguishene amphitheatre, next to the curling club. Enjoy views of the harbour and great music. Performances run rom 6-8pm.
