Tay Shore Trail
Description
The Tay Shore Trail is an 18.5 km paved trail running along the Georgian Bay shoreline through Tay Township. It links Midland at its western end to Waubaushene in the east, with a branch into Port McNicoll along the Trestle Trail.
Built on a former rail corridor and opened in 2007, it is flat, smooth and well signed, popular for cycling, walking, rollerblading and family outings.
The trail runs close to the water for much of its length, passing through wetland, field and wooded areas and over the Wye, Hogg and Sturgeon Rivers. It connects the villages of Victoria Harbour, Port McNicoll and Waubaushene, where walkers and cyclists can leave the trail for downtown shops and waterfront patios.
Interpretive plaques cover the area’s natural and railway history, and the shoreline is known for turtle nesting and Trumpeter swan sightings in season.
At its western end it joins the Midland Rotary Waterfront Trail, part of a continuous shoreline route running west through Midland and on toward Penetanguishene.
