Frankly Speaking
Description
A 1920s speakeasy hidden at the back of Let Me Be Frank on King Street. The room out front sells gourmet hot dogs by day; after six the space behind it opens as a dimly lit bar with jazz on the speakers and Prohibition-era portraits on the walls.
The cocktail list is the draw, built around house creations named for the era, with a full Temperance list of alcohol-free mixed drinks alongside it. Food runs to shareable plates rather than mains.
Sunday adds a brunch service in the same room, late morning through mid afternoon.
Space is limited and reservations are encouraged. Walk-ins are admitted only when the neon martini glass is lit, and only with the passphrase.
Among the bars and cocktail lounges in downtown Midland, this is the one you have to know about to find.
