Awenda Provincial Park
Description
Awenda Provincial Park spreads across roughly 2,900 hectares of forested peninsula reaching into Georgian Bay at the north end of Tiny Township. It is one of Ontario’s larger provincial parks, with beaches, hardwood forest, and Kettle’s Lake at its centre.
Over 30 kilometres of hiking and biking trails run through the park. The Wendat Trail is a 5 km loop around Kettle’s Lake with a boardwalk section and lakeshore lookouts; the longer Bluff Trail climbs through forest and campgrounds; and the flat, well-packed Beach Trail runs out to the shoreline.
Several sandy beaches line the Georgian Bay side, including a dog-friendly beach, and Kettle’s Lake offers calmer swimming and canoeing inland. Birdwatching is a draw, with a wide range of species through the forest and wetlands.
Camping runs across six campgrounds with several hundred sites for tents, trailers and RVs, some with electrical hookups, plus group camping. The park is open year-round, with the trails used for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing through winter.
